RULE NO. 9: BE POSITIVE

State a fact or an idea directly, whenever possible. You will find that vigorous writers use direct rather than indirect sentences. Make definite assertions. Often this is best done by following the natural order of thought: subject, verb, and object.

Avoid hesitating, round-about language. A bureaucrat tends to write: “With respect to the question of pets, Mary exercised rights of ownership over a certain juvenile member of the sheep family. But, a child simply says: “Mary had a little lamb.”

It just makes no sense to confuse the public readers on what you mean. Do not waste ink and brain cells but just get your facts straight and fast. You can also be positive by avoiding the use of litotes, a figure of speech.

Say what you need to say directly.
that's all.

Optism is very pleasing for the readers. Not only you, but also the readers, will have a good outlook in life when you read something positive. Negative things will only depress them and they might ignore your article.

To be positive gives ideas directly. Being direct to the does not make readers be confused on what the writer wants us to understand. Using negative words such as "not" will only confuse readers so better not us it if possible.

It's stupid if you confuse your readers on what you mean by beating around the bush and using facts and data that is not even linked to your subject. You're just wasting your time. Just get to the facts or ideas straight.

The main purpose here is to inform your readers what you really want to say. You don;t make an article interesting just because it's long, but has no substance at all. That's so foolish! Why beat around the bush when you can say it directly, not wasting time and ink in the process.

Being positive could make your article a better one. Looking at the example on the above article really inspired me to be positive, rather than writing that long sentence by being positive we could just write it as Mary had a little lamb.

Almost everybody wants to look at the bright side of life. In writing, the readers are expecting a positive content of an article. Being positive is just like getting to the point. For easier life, we can just avoid the adverb "not" nd be positive.

If possible, try to avoid the use of double negatives or the word "not". Instead of writing the double negative, just use the positive, take not ugly as an example, why not just say pretty or handsome. Always keep in mind the other rules and you won't miss this.

Keep in mind that you are writing an article not a riddle. Too much figure of speeches tend to boggle the mind of the readers.

It is just like confusing the readers on what you want to convey. Avoid making your sentences long.
Always be positive so the work will be shorter and clearer. We can also be positive by stating your thoughts directly.

I agree with Jasper, figures of speech is not needed to write a news article.

You should write directly the word you want to say. Using negatives do not add up to the sense or emphasize your sentence. This way we can avoid double negatives in our sentences. Thus, this will lessen the possibility that our readers will get confused.

It would be a big help if you will be positive on the way you write. Because of this, your readers will not be confused and will get them understand what you wrote even better.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think everyone would prefer to read reading materials of which has a positive tone. Being consistently positive in your writings, makes them understand what you nedd to say better.

Being positive means stating an idea as soon as possible. An effective writer makes use of this ideal, and he frequently creates effective articles. Avoid highfaluting languages. Writing that implicitly aims to confuse your readers makes no sense at all, and only wastes your time and effort.

Do not confuse your readers. Always keep that in mind. State your idea fast and direct. Most writers do that. It’s just like getting to the point.

Some writers tend to have a long introduction before he introduces his idea. This will lead to wasted money and ink. So if I were you, I'd rather be positive by stating the idea directly not indirectly.

Being positive is a good attitute. It can help an individual to lift his spirit in times of hardship. This can also be a way to give comments.Optimism can affect the feelings of the reader.

Writers should state the facts directly. Don’t waste your time writing things that are not related to the topic itself. You should also write positively because everyone wants to look at the positive side of life. Usually, readers would prefer articles which uses direct sentences because they are easier to understand and comprehend.

It is very good to have a positive note in one's writings, since a melancholic populace is not nice to look at. Just bear in mind that there is a limit to everything, even optimism.

Marielle Gaminde said...

Readers tend to expect that articles, especially news articles, should not require critical thinking. You should avoid the use of double negatives cause it only makes the writing senseless.

Gerald Ramos Caalam said...

A pessimistic writer always fails in all of his plans. Do not forget that we have to be positive about the different aspects in life. If you are positive with the result of your work, then it will surely gain praises.

Jed Berenguer said...

Positivity doesn't only apply to outlooks in life, it also applies in writing. State your points directly and use positive perspectives, you'll end up with a good and effective article.

As in optimism, be positive. In language, be positive as well. Do not confuse your readers, you wrote to inform. Try to make it smooth sailing, allow them to take it in easy.

Isn't it just logical to be positive than be negative? Well, I guess it's a different topic but the point is, if you want to be positive, be poitive. Don't use double negatives because it causes confusion.

If double negatives means positive, and using positive means less time, effort and space, then use the positive! Double negatives may just confuse the readers and mislead them to what the sentence really means.

Maylene Librando Manzano said...

In journalistic writing, we really do not need any flowery statements. Such are just a waste. Why even bother spend hours writing such hard-to-understand sentences when it can just be stated in not more than five words? The readers are our priority. Writing articles will be just put to waste if our readers cannot even understand them.

Maria Ericka Tan Duran said...

Be Positive. Avoid double negatives. Go straight to the point. Doing a long windy paragraph won't do well for anyone. It will not only tire you out as you write it, it will also bore and confuse the readers.

John Kenneth Laureto Mariano said...

Being positive in our sentences makes our thoughts easier to be expressed or understand. Positive ideas makes it more easier for the readers. We might commit double negatives if we will use of negative ones. And say what you want to say directly.

Be direct to the point. Do not make your readers get confused on whatever you are writing about because in the end, they will surely never read any of your works again or they will stop reading your article then go to a better one that has a clearer sense. I agree with Dhalaine. Better avoid the use of double negatives. It is another recipe for confusion.

Some writers tend to play safe. But one must remember that if you don't get your facts straight, the readers won't know what to believe. They would think that an article isn't credible if the writer doens't state things clearly. Optimism in articles are preferable to readers

Francis Justine Mariano Malban said...

Write directly and do not waste time and ink. Flowery words are just waste of time. Also, Be Positive and your readers will also be. Positive ideas are more pleasing to the eyes of the readers.

Being positive in your writings states your ideas directly. Using otherwise would just confuse you and your readers. It is very foolish to puzzle your readers in your article.

What Mark just commented was kind of vague, If you asked me. Yes, things confuse you. What things exactly? Does being negative bring confusion? No, It doesn't all the time. Just sometimes maybe. It is just better to have things all in a positive sense to achieve (1) the good results(or bad) in a direct manner than with the negatives that make an article seemingly have the sense of depression. (2) A goal of a grammar-fanatic is to have that "sense of parallelism". Without it, every idea will just crisscross and will leave you at a dead-end or another crossing.

Alen Auric Subang Santos said...

It is best if you do not confuse your readers. If you do, then what is the point of writing an article if it would just be more of a nuisance? You have just wasted your time writing.

Ma. Antonette Furo Furio said...

Lots of negativity won't do your article any good. The simpler, the better. Just stick to the status quo and most probably, it would all turn out good. Be direct. That's it.

Mark Vincent Sarmiento Valmadrid said...

Directing to the point, is being positive. You don't have to use words that will only confuse your readers. It just wasting your time and effort because readers might throw your work in a trashcan if you continue writing ideas that are not needed.
